Maxi-Miser® Rack Systems

The Maxi-Miser® Air Flow System can be constructed as a fixed or mobile unit using 14 basic cage designs. The removable shelf/plenums design eliminates the need for rear cage exhaust ports required with other cage systems. This provides maximum visibility and light transmission through the rack. All units are available with bottle watering, automatic watering systems or a combination of both.

Mobile Housing

This system is designed to allow flexibility in size, type of units and placement within your facility. Mobile Cage Systems are constructed for ease of mobility. These racks are equipped with stainless steel casters, grease fittings and optional locking wheels.

  • Maximum of 10 shelves high
  • 6 to 14 cages per shelf
  • Total cage accommodations range from
  • 40 to 140 cages per rack
  • Stainless steel construction
  • Various methods of supplying
  • and exhausting air to systems

Fixed Housing

This system allows maximum density housing of rodents using a minimum of floor space.

Units are available in either single bay, double bay or triple bay construction. The fixed system may utilize shelves of differing lengths to allow the overall length to match your existing room requirements.

  • Maximum of 12 shelves high
  • 6 to 14 cages per shelf
  • 8 to 12 shelves per rack
  • Maximizes density up to 280 cage positions
  • Combination of stainless steel and anodized aluminum construction

The Maxi-Miser® PIV Air Flow Technology

In conjunction with the Jackson Laboratory in 1978, we led the industry with the development of the first IVC System, the Maxi-Miser® Pressurized Individual Ventilation (PIV) to each cage.

As shown below the system delivers low velocity HEPA filtered air through sealed shelf plenums that suspend the cages.  Air is supplied through orifices located above the cage fitter top.

Cage air exhausts up through the filter top through the exhaust orifices located above the filter into the exhaust plenum.

This design eliminates air supply ports that penetrate the side wall of the cage.  This can cause high velocity air flow turbulence inside the cage.

Depending on your isolation requirements, our racks can be adjusted to maintain either positive or negative cage pressure.

The cage runners inure that the filter top engages securely with the shelf plenum that supplies and exhausts air through orifices located above the cage filter.

Removable Shelf/Plenums

Each supporting plenum shelf suspends individual cages, providing a seal between the cage and the plenum.

Our modular racks feature the industry’s only removable shelf plenum system that can be washed and sanitized.

Rack Monitor

Maxi-Miser® Rack Monitor controls supply and exhaust pressures to maintain both at the pre-set levels. This unit features our proprietary air flow technology that calculates air changes per hour for any of the different size Thoren cages.
